Tides

The tidal phenomenon

The tide comes in and goes out twice a day, about every six hours. The difference in height between high tide and low tide is defined by a coefficient between 20 and 120. A high coefficient indicates good conditions for shellfish collection.

In 2012 tides will occur on:

24th and 25th January, 9th, 10th and 11th February, 9th , 10th and 11th March, 7th and 8th April, 6th and 7th May, 5th and 6th June 5th July, 3rd and 20th August, 17th and 18th September, 16th and 17th October, 14th and 15th November, 14th and 15th December.

Collecting shellfish

You can enjoy eating the shellfish you collect : winkles, mussels, oysters, shrimps, clams, velvet crabs, limpets.

The marine environment is fragile: replace all rocks and pebbles and throw back any very small creatures you catch to allow them to mature and reproduce.

Line fishing

Surfcasting, fishing with a line and float from the harbour or casting from the rocks (bass, mullet, mackerel, coley, sea bream, garfish, plaice).
